“Dear NICU Mama, As you navigate life after NICU, always remember that it is normal to look back on your NICU time with both sadness and fond memories.

It was the place where you met and grew a relationship with your child. A place where you learned how to be a mother. A place where you introduced your baby to your family. A place where you gave them their first bath, witnessed their first smiles, and cuddled them for countless hours.

It may have also been a place where you cried, prayed, and felt fear for your child and their future. Where you spoke to doctors and waited for results. Where you googled medical diagnoses and became an advocate for your baby.

It may have been both a place of joy and pain, and it’s okay to feel and acknowledge it all. NICU Mama, no matter your experience, you will be on the other side one day and look back. You may smile or cry, but my hope is that you acknowledge whatever you feel in the moment, and find peace. You are not alone.”

Love,
Laura

More of Melissa + Evelyn’s + Olivia’s NICU Stories:

“I developed HELLP syndrome suddenly and unexpectedly at 30 weeks pregnant. Our son Jack, our first born, was born at 30 weeks 5 days. He spent 9 weeks in the NICU before coming home. He is now almost 1, healthy and thriving. We are forever changed from our NICU experience and forever grateful for our son.

The NICU feels so distant and also like yesterday. I found a lot of comfort in the Dear NICU momma posts and hope to be able to provide that to other current and future NICU mommas. Thank you for what y’all do.”
