Love, Libby
“Dear NICU Mama, Your birth story tells the story of bravery. It’s not about grand gestures or heroic acts; it’s about courage as you navigate the unknown, make difficult decisions, and witness your baby fight for life. Bravery is found in the small moments—the quiet strength, the trembling hand holding onto hope, the whispered words of comfort to a fragile newborn.
Love is a force to be reckoned with - it’s a bond that transcends wires and tubes. And hope will sustain you through the longest nights and the toughest days. Your journey is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit, the power of love, and strength found in the most fragile moments of life.”
Love,
Libby

More of Libby + Penelope’s NICU Journey:
“I woke up bleeding profusely, at 31 weeks pregnant, and drove myself to the hospital - while my husband drove our toddler to preschool. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was having a placental abruption. Our baby was earthside before my husband arrived at the hospital. Penelope Mae weighed 3 lb 6 oz and was in respiratory distress. Our hospital didn't have a NICU, so transportation arrangements had to be made for her and luckily they decided to transfer me to the same hospital. Our NICU stay was filled with highs and lows, and the same monotonous beeping you endure, but the kindness of other parents and nurses sustained us. Day after day, we formed friendships with nurses, doctors and other parents. We spent 49 days and nights in NICU and that experience changed us. A year and a half later, we are about to have a play date with two of our NICU neighbors now that our "babies" are all walking. There is hope, mama!”
